Jennifer Lawrence Confesses She Hardly Understood Film She Starred In Despite Sleeping With The Director

Jennifer Lawrence is widely recognized as one of the most prominent actors in the world, having appeared in several iconic films.However, one of her lesser-known movies stirred quite a reaction from fans at the time.

Although she earned a significant portion of her wealth from starring in major franchises like The Hunger Games and X-Men, not all of the 33-year-old’s films have received widespread critical acclaim.Specifically, a movie from 2017 garnered mixed reviews and, to be honest, left a majority of viewers quite baffled.

The film in question, Mother!, features Lawrence as an unnamed mother who finds her home overrun by a group of uninvited guests.

While the premise might seem intriguing, the horror film definitely didn’t resonate well with the audience.Typically, the most frequent criticism from viewers is that the film is, quite frankly, poorly executed.

However, the predominant complaint about Mother! was its confusing nature.Some viewers theorized that Lawrence’s character symbolized Mother Earth, and the intruders represented humanity’s exploitation of Earth’s natural resources.

Despite various interpretations, it is clear that the film did not fare well with audiences.Even Lawrence herself has admitted to being perplexed by the movie, despite her intimate relationship with the director, Darren Aronofsky.

During an appearance on the show Watch What Happens Live, the host, Andy Cohen, asked Lawrence:”On a scale of one to totally confused, how much did you understand your film Mother!?”

Lawrence responded with laughter, ensuring she would answer truthfully.

Amidst her laughter, she replied: “I’m going to be honest. Well, I was sleeping with the director, so I had the CliffNotes. So, five. Or maybe four?”Cohen responded in surprise, exclaiming: “Four?! Wow okay, that’s not very high.”

Aronofsky and Lawrence initially connected on the set of the film, but they ended their relationship just two months after the movie was released.Lawrence later acknowledged that the film had placed a strain on their relationship.

In a conversation with Adam Sandler, Lawrence shared her experience: “Normally, I promote a movie, ask people to go see it, and then it’s just out of your hands.””I normally just kind of let it go. Dating the director was different. We’d be on the [press] tour together, I’d come back to the hotel, and the last thing I want to talk about or think about is a movie.”

“He comes back from the tour, and that’s all he wants to talk about and I get it. It’s his baby. He wrote it. He conceived it. He directed it.”

She continued: “I was doing double duty trying to be a supportive partner, while also being like, ‘Can I please, for the love of God, not think about Mother! for one second?'””I finally was just like, ‘It’s not healthy. Neither of us are doing it because if I read it, I start getting defensive.'”

“Especially because it’s my man. It’s awesome, what we did — some people hate it and the people who hate it, really hate it.”
